The Seven Major Chakras

The Sanskrit word Chakra means meaning “wheel of light” in the Hindi language is due to its association as a spinning vortex of vital force energy interacting with different systems within the physical body. The auric field around a person´s body is regulated by the Chakras, reflecting its current energy flow and the individual’s state of mind-body-soul health and well-being.

Coming from the spiritual traditions of Eastern cultures, some people consider Chakras to be the basis of human existence. In these cultures, a Chakra is regarded as a center of energy within our body that assists in a variety of processes, including physical and emotional control. These subtle energy centers are responsible for the energy flow of the body. When a Chakra is out of sync. the energy level gets out of balance, which can have a negative impact on a person’s health and well-being. According to the Chakra Healing teachings, experiencing lack of mental, emotional and physical energy suggests an imbalance of the Chakras or a decrease in its optimal functionality.

This swirling energy is centered into seven main regions of the human body, each aligned with a specific area of the body, beginning at the base of the spine, then going clear up to the top of the head.

A healthy body, mind, and spirit is provided with balanced life force energy, also called “Chi”; governed by the Chakras. The heart Chakra bridges the lower and upper energy centers. The three lower Chakras correlate with a person’s physical and material world, basic primary needs, self-image, identity. The three upper Chakras are associated with higher consciousness and spiritual aspects.

Once we have identified which attribute each Chakra is linked to, we can begin to recognize how that attribute manifests itself in our body. Reflecting upon our body simply by consciously focusing our attention on each of these Chakra locations can help us pinpoint any energy imbalances.
